    Our Gallery

Year 2 have been learning all about the Great Fire of London and as a result we wrote a sense poem. We built a fire pit to generate ideas. We have alo made some tudor houses to replicate the fire that happened in Pudding Lane to see how quickly the fire spread. We have also created a Fact File in writing, writing all bout the Great Fire of london.

In Art we have been looking at the artist Alice Mara who creates sculpures of Victorian and Edwardian houses with a lot of detail. We learnt the technique of slip, score and blend and used that to create our own version.

    Focus Week

We have collaborated with Rievaulx House so the children are able to support their residents in combatting loneliness. We have written a narrative, performed a poem and created some excellent flowers using a range of drawing techniques.

Class door - Katie in London and Cakes in Space

Year 2 class door is about Katie in London and her adventure with the lion and her brother Jack visiting famous landmarks in London. The door is interactive and the children can move Katie and the lion and place them in different places.

Our other class door is about Cakes in Space and Astras adventure.

In writing we have looked at how to write a diary extract. We wrote about our adventure in London and the different landmarks we visited. We made sure that it was written in the 1st person and used descriptive words to describle the lands marks.

Geography - year 2 have been looking at the differences between Leeds and Tokyo by looking at authentic resources from Japan.

Our Geography trip to Leeds City Centre!

As part of our Geography unit of learning, we went into Leeds City Centre to look at all the features. We spoke to a range of different people to ask why they were in Leeds - some people were shopping, some people were working and some people were visiting the city for the first time. We will use this information to compare Leeds to Tokyo and see what the similarities and differences are. Miss Caine said we can't afford to pop over to Tokyo to do the comparison work through!

We received this letter in the post from some lovely people we spoke to on our walk around Leeds - what a kind thing to do. Thank you whoever you are!

In science we looked at observing plants and went on a seed hunt around our school environment to see what seeds we could find. We then identified them using our prior knowledge and ipads.

In Year 2 we have been busy baking scones for our Design Technology unit. The DT unit corresponds with our Geography topic about Leeds and Tokyo. We decided on scones as it is a British favourite cake in England. The children had the opportunity to get hands on and make their very own scone, deciding what filling they would like. We did some taste testing to figure it out.

We have also been writing and informal letter In English baased on our class text My Fathers Dragon and we are currently learning to write a chapter.

I Maths we have been learniing all about place value and now have moved onto Addition and subtraction where we are looking at Fact families and related facts.
