    Culture Day 5.7.24

For culture day, children were encouraged to come to school wearing clothes that represented their culture. We had a great turn out and it was lovely to see a variety of cultures being celebrated. Reception learnt all about Thailand for the day, we made a flag, drew some elephants and tasted Thai food, it was delicious! A huge thank you to Jody's Mum and sister for coming in to talk about Thailand.

Summer 1 - Focus Week - Incredible Armley Explorers!

Reception learnt all about Bear Grylls during Focus week. We found out about and watched some of his many expeditions. He is brave, strong, adventurous, resiliant and knows how to survive. As part of our week, Reception took on their own adventure and followed clues, worked as a team and survived their climb on 'Mount Everest' All children wrote a postcard and grown ups were invited into the hall at the end of the week to look at all the fabulous learning. Phew, what a week!

    W/C 7th May 2024 - An Eggs-citing week in Reception!

Reception received an exciting delivery on Tuesday...10 chick eggs! We were lucky enough to watch 2 chicks hatch and it was the most magical moment that I am sure they will remember for a very long time. Watch the video to see (and hear!) the whole class watching our first chick hatch. Throughout the week, Reception have been learning about the life cycle of a chick, the difference between the colours (brown chicks are girls and yellow chicks are boys), creating collages of chicks, writing about them and doing lots and lots of talking! It has been amazing and we are looking forward to holding them next week!

    Focus Week - Spring 1 2024

For our focus week, Reception read the story "Have you filled a bucket today?" It is all about being aware of other people's feelings and what we can do to fill people's buckets. Reception listened well to the story and were confident in talking about filling up the buckets of their teachers and friends. Everyone made their own buckets and wrote down all the different ways you can fill a bucket. For our Art work, Reception learnt all about mixing primary colours to make secondary colours. They used their mixed colours to paint a flower to create a large meadow scene. I am sure you will all agree how fab Reception's display board is!
