Year one are very excited that it's the summer term - we really hope our teacher (Mr Donnison) lets us do as much learning outside as we can!

This term, we're going to be doing lots of phonics games and making up our own 'alien words' (like 'ploong' or 'blaytoo'). We are also going to learn how to multiply and divide in maths. In science, we're going to be  growing plants & studying them.

We cannot wait for our trip to Stump Cross Caverns, where we get to wear helmets and go caving!
And another thing - Leeds United are coming to school to do our PE lessons! We are so excited.

International Week

It has been international week in Year 1, and we've been learning all about Brazil! We made our own fact-file about the country (using the internet to research), we made (well, we are still in the process of making actually...) Carnival (Portuguese: Carnaval do Brasil) headdresses and we cooked Brigadeiros (Brazilian sweet treats). Have a look at some of the pics from our week!

Planting in the Park!

Year one are very grateful to have been invited to help our park ranger, Claire, to plant some wildflowers in Gotts Park. We had a lovely afternoon planting wildflowers and helping to make our park a lovely place to be, and we even got to roll down a hill on our way home! If you would like to go and see our handiwork, there is a map in the pictures section of this post.

KS1 Trip to Stump Cross Caverns

Year One and Year Two have been caving! We took a coach all the way to North Yorkshire, and went to Stump Cross Caverns. We met the lovely people who ran the cave, and they told us all about it: - Did you know that the cave is even older than the dinosaurs? - Did you know that the cave was made by water? We also went on a fairy hunt - the caves had loads of fairy doors, and we even found the fairy's house! Do you think this might be where the tooth-fairy lives? We do! Have a look at our pictures and see if you can see some of the crazy shapes that the rock makes.

Wee-Man came to teach us Judo! It was ace! Check it out:

We have been learning to multiply!

Year one have been learning about 'times'. It's also been pretty sunny - so we thought we'd take some of our learning outside! Check it out - what do you think?

Materials Investigation

We have been looking at what materials are used to make the objects around us - can you spot what is made of metal, wood or glass?

Welcome to Year 1!

During the Spring term, year 1 have lots of exciting things planned: Making our own fairy tales, measuring, learning about shapes, finding out what materials are used to make the objects aroud us and much, much more.

We can't wait to show you what we find out! Stay tuned for some cool photos and pieces of writing showing our learning journey.
Remembrance Day - November 2017

Reception and Year 1 took a walk to the Cenotaph on Armley Park. We had been learning all about Remembrance Day and the importance of it. We all took something to put on the Cenotaph to show we are thinking about all the soldiers who fought to keep us safe.

Autumn fun in the park

Reception and Year 1 took a walk in the park to the cenotaph. On our way back we couldn't resist throwing all the lovely Autumn leaves in the air! Do you like to throw leaves?
